COVID-19 made an impact on lives when restricting movements and interactions with employees. Now is the time to boost contact, communication and conversations… here’s how…
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about a new way of life for companies, with the transition into alternative ways of working and getting their workforce set-up to work from home. It’s been a challenging time for some employees as they get used to their makeshift office at their dining room table and utilising technology such as Slack or Microsoft Teams to form the daily interactions through a camera and screen.
As the government encourages businesses to “get back to work” we see some workplaces re-populating, but others deciding not to open their office again in 2020 or downsize their working space altogether. As the new workplace landscape adapts, incorporating remote working as a permanent fixture, the days of a quick glass of wine or a pint after work with colleagues and the pub quiz on a Wednesday night will be on pause.
With this in mind, how do you keep your employees engaged and get them together, respecting social distancing guidelines, to maintain company culture and relationships, without overdosing on the classic Zoom quiz? Here are some of our ideas:

5 ways to get your employees together in a social distancing world
1) Celebrity Virtual and Social Distancing Experiences
Get together in the comfort of your people’s own home or in small groups and enjoy the experience with a celebrity guest at the helm, to host the activity.
Some suggestions include:
- At home beer / wine / gin tasting (branded packs sent in advance) – hosted by a leading sommelier with a celebrity guest to interact with the participants
- Virtual Boxing fight night – relive a historic boxing match hosted by a sky sports boxing presenter and a boxing celebrity such as Carl Froch. Remember the classic moments, have a go at commentating, and interact with the celebrities in a live Q&A session
- Virtual Comedy night – enjoy a fun filled evening of comedy with 3 high profile comedians providing the entertainment. With employees answering a few questions beforehand, we can get the comedians to provide mentions for certain people and give your company a push to really personalise the event.
- Round of golf with your sporting hero – warm up at the practice facilities then enjoy 18 holes whilst getting the inside steer from your chosen celebrity. A fun packed day for smaller groups, with lunch included and an opportunity for Q&A at the end of the day.
All packages can be enhanced to include company branding, signed celebrity memorabilia or professional videography to capture the best bits and produce a highlights video of your day.
2) Virtual Selfie Game
With Instagram being one of the most popular social media platforms and ‘selfie’ now featuring in the Oxford Dictionary, we’re all guilty of taking those sneaky self-portraits, so why not take it to the next level with a selfie game?
Suitable for 25-30 players in any location, and up to 400 people in total, the aim of the game is to be silly rather than sexy! Players compete to take the best picture in response to fun poses suggested by the game. Each player uses their phone to view the suggested poses, takes their selfie then judge other entries, all without downloading an app.
As the game progresses, players will be challenged to pull poses like ‘Tiger Roar’ and ‘Balloon Face’ with just 30 seconds to take the perfect shot. After every round each person will score one another using a Tinder-style swipe, with the best poser revealed at the end of the game.
When it’s all over and the winner has been announced all players will have access to a gallery of entries as an easily shareable souvenir.
The game works well in a number of situations including online socials, celebrations and teambuilding. The game is started from a zoom style call, with a presenter. Split into intercompany teams of up to 30 and have a giggle with this hilarious and on point game.

3) Live Treasure Hunts
Get to know your local town or somewhere new with a live, interactive and action-packed treasure hunt game. Encourage teams to think on their feet, cracking a secret code or collectively deciphering a puzzle to beat their opponents and get to the top of the leader board. There are numerous options and themes to choose from including escape rooms, local trivia, timed challenges and murder mysteries to name a few.
Using award-winning technology, we can organise unique location-based treasure hunts that use a versatile and interactive app designed to engage, motivate and provide insight. We want your people buzzing at your next virtual company meeting with higher energy levels, an improved mood and ready to tackle their next challenge.
4) Go Ape
With the government encouraging us all to get out and exercise and the option to meet in groups outdoors available to us, why not send your team for an afternoon of tree top fun at Go Ape which is now back open.
You can choose from the original Treetop Challenge course, Forest Segway experience, Nets Adventure, Axe Throwing or even an outdoor escape room. The adventures are designed to get people out into the fresh air and enjoy a fun and exciting challenge with colleagues or clients.
Comprehensive risk assessments are in place with smaller groups allowed in the trees and longer spacing between each group. Additional hand washing and sanitiser stations are in place for both staff and guests and social distancing of 2m remaining both on the ground and in the trees. With locations across the country, get the adrenaline pumping at Go Ape.
5) Virtual Murder Mystery
We can offer a highly interactive problem-solving event designed to test your crime-solving skills. CSI meets Cluedo in this classic ‘whodunit’, requiring players to work together to unlock and examine key evidence such as witness statements and suspect interviews, using augmented reality to reveal hidden information along the way. As you explore the crime scene via an interactive map, players complete tasks and challenges which will help them acquire evidence and assist the investigation.
Hosted via video conference, points will be awarded for successfully completing observational and trivia questions, as well as fun photo and video tasks, all whilst identifying the weapon, murderer and motive.
So far this year, we’ve lacked the human interaction needed to enhance relationships, embrace networking and increase loyalty and engagement. Now is the time to develop communications and bring your key people together, through a fun and exciting experience with a twist, whether that is virtually or face-to-face.
