European incentive travel destinations to do when on a budget

Posted by Jo Kelly

Choosing the best incentive travel destinations for your business doesn’t mean having to fly to the furthest parts of the world and breaking your budget.

The same benefits of an incentive travel trip, such as motivating staff, driving high performance and boosting company loyalty, can be felt much closer to home, all while being cost-effective.

When it comes to scaling down your trips, incentive travel in Europe has a lot to offer. European incentive travel destinations are, in fact, a good choice for UK businesses for many reasons:

  • Affordable – as an alternative to a far-flung destination, Europe offers an array of exciting cities to visit at a much lower price.
  • Less travel time – short-haul flights mean that less time is spent travelling and more time is spent enjoying the experience.
  • Frequency of flights – flights are regular, so it’s easy to find suitable departure times that, for instance, don’t affect working hours.
  • Diversity – the array of cultures, history, landmarks, and landscapes means you’re likely to find something for everyone.

The most popular incentive travel destinations in Europe can provide you and your staff with some great experiences. Our Events Team have collated a couple of examples for you to consider:

Riga, Latvia
Cosmopolitan and beautiful, this, the capital of Latvia, offers a skyline of Gothic spires, which overlooks a city of art nouveau architecture, hip bars and desirable restaurants. In contrast, stunning white sandy beaches, sand dunes, and beautiful forests lie just outside the city limits. Excursions include the colourful Riga Central Market for produce tasting, a canal cruise, and balsam tasting, as well as a tour of the National Opera House, and a walking tour of the city. Enjoy team activities like the Aerodium Wind Tunnel, soft rafting or bobsledding at the luge track.

Budapest, Hungary
A feast for the eyes, Hungary’s capital boasts a diverse range of architecture, with everything from Roman ruins to baroque churches, art nouveau buildings to medieval houses. The city has so much to offer, including thermal springs and bathhouses for relaxation, as well as renowned food and wine to enjoy. Take in the city via a segway tour and stop off at the Rudas Baths – renovated Turkish baths built in 1566. Enjoy a night-time cruise on the Danube, trips to the city’s iconic farmers’ markets, and the beautiful Great Synagogue.

Dubrovnik, Croatia
A stunning city with a backdrop of white beaches and sparkling water, Dubrovnik boasts a rich and diverse history with the architecture to prove it. The city’s family-run taverns offer simple home-cooked food, with its local wines and olive oils gaining global recognition. Activities include water sports, such as snorkeling, kayaking and windsurfing, as well as other exciting outdoor pursuits like rock climbing and zip-lining. Dubrovnik’s cable car offers unbelievable views, while the city walls and forts provide opportunities to explore its rich and fascinating history.

Vilnius, Lithuania
Boasting Europe’s largest baroque old town, Lithuania’s capital has a skyline that’s interspersed with multiple orthodox and Catholic steeples. Although small, this beautiful city is jam-packed with quaint cobbled streets, stunning views, fascinating artists’ workshops, restaurants and nightlife aplenty. Excursions include the hilltop Gediminas Castle and Museum for culture and history, the city’s authentic cellar restaurants, offering folk music and dancing, and a walking tour of the eclectic Old Town. Experience Vilnius by Hot Air Balloon, electric bike or boat cruise.

Soll, Austria
Soll is a traditional, picturesque ski resort in Austria and one of the main gateway villages to the SkiWelt. This is the largest lift-connected ski area in the country, with 279km of pistes, 91 ski lifts and more than 70 mountain bars and restaurants. Soll also offers a vibrant nightlife where you can get your après fix after a day on the slopes. And, if you tire of skiing, there’s always outdoor ice skating and some exhilarating toboggan runs to enjoy.

Valletta, Malta
Recognised as a World Heritage Site, Malta’s capital is a city of great history and beauty. It is filled with impressive sights, such as the Royal Opera House, restored golden-stone fortresses, and 16th-century mansions converted into unique hotels, bars and restaurants. The city’s outskirts provide a stunning ferry trip to the historic Three Cities, or charter a boat for a day-trip to the neighbouring island of Gozo to see the prehistoric Ggantija Temples, its beautiful beaches and have fun jet skiing or windsurfing on the crystal-clear waters.
