The solution

Having organised the NetApp Insight event since 2008, we knew that we needed to create a conference that was bigger and better than ever.

With Germany being NetApp’s biggest market in EMEA, this made it a desirable destination to hold the annual 4-day conference. Berlin was the ideal location as it was easily accessible for delegates from across the EMEA region.

Social and networking occasions were a key element to the event, so we were to create fun and lively entertainment within unique venues.

What we did

We managed and implemented four main components within the conference:

  • General Sessions featuring keynote presentations from NetApp executives and external speakers
  • Large scale live instructor presenter led training on technical and solution developments
  • Exhibition with over 100 of NetApp’s key partners alongside NetApp’s own eld experts
  • Networking opportunities with peers, partners and NetApp Technical Leadership

The conference attracted over 3,600 attendees from 62 different countries. This was a 5% increase in attendance YOY and a 382% growth since 2008 when the event was introduced.

92% of attendees downloaded the event app, which enabled them to tailor their own event experience using the schedule builder feature.
Attendees connected with NetApp’s President and SVP’s in the General Session keynotes, to understand the direction the business is heading, new trends and latest technology.

Delegates upgraded their skills by participating in their choice of over 300 technical sessions, featuring solutions, case studies, best practices and tools.

Hands-On-Labs were completed whereby they experienced NetApp software, systems and services from expert tutors. They built upon their knowledge by attending the NetApp University; the total certifications earned were +14% YOY.

Fun and social
We transformed the welcome reception drinks event with a Jazz Festival theme. Guests enjoyed a Jazz trio, Jazz Lounge inspired cocktails. and a photo booth. Before heading off and indulging in some Carpool Karaoke style fun.

Regional dinners were coordinated along with recognising outstanding achievements at the Tech Team Awards winner’s dinner.

We held a Hackathon evening, where 50 teams were given two challenges they must complete using NetApp technology. An opportunity to explore, innovate and learn. They were judged and the winners given prizes.

On the final evening, an offsite appreciation party was held at The Station, a disused train station in the hub of Berlin city. The venue was transformed into a Winter Wonderland themed celebration (in light of the Christmas Markets located in the city in November), where guests could participate with the roaming acts, winter games, interactivity drumming bands and so much more.

The pièce de résistance was the RPJ band rocking out with the 3,600 delegates and participating in a mass mannequin challenge.

The “Bring on the Future” Social Media lounge encouraged delegates to communicate their newly discovered insights to their networks. During the conference over 1,400 individuals shared content, with +7% increase of contributors YOY. 13,000 social engagements were added, a 62% increase YOY. And 50million+ social impressions were made, an increase of 194% YOY. #NetAppInsight trended at #10 worldwide.

NetApp Insight became EMEA’s largest data storage conference and won ‘Conference of the Year’ in the C&IT Awards.
